Jeshua Quote #fb

July 2, 2010

"It was customary in the very ancient world to tithe all manner of harvest back to God. Tithing was tangible praise and gratitude! If you read through the rest of Genesis, other ancient books of the Hebrews, and many surviving records of the pre-industrial world, you will find frequent and explicit instructions about this. Even rotation of crops and fields was mentioned as a kind of tithing. In every field, there would be a strip of grain left uncut for God to distribute back freely to nature. In every orchard there was one tree never harvested and kept sacred as a natural altar to God’s abundance. This altar was also an expression of faith in His eternal supply. Indeed, tithing permeated all of life, not just temple contributions or alms to the poor! God was acknowledged and worshipped as the Source of all abundance. Man was considered the recipient, steward, processor, developer, and distributor of that abundance, but certainly not the source of it."
